Following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, Homeless International launched a fundraising appeal to support the poor communities that were affected. Federation members in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods - and although they were given immediate emergency relief, resources were still needed for longer-term reconstruction and income generation. Whilst some charities in the UK stated that there was no need for any more money, the real cost of reconstruction in India alone was estimated at US$1.2billion!(abstract from http://www.homeless-international.org)
