This publication reviews literature on Aboriginal homelessness, supplemented by literature on Aboriginal socio-economic conditions, urban Aboriginals and street youth, Aboriginal health issues, discrimination against minorities in the housing market, and Aboriginal skid row lifestyle. After a profile of Aboriginal populations in Canada, discussion of the literature is organized under the following subject areas: definitions of homelessness, risk factors in Aboriginal homelessness, characteristics of the Aboriginal homeless, homelessness in rural Aboriginal communities, and addressing Aboriginal homelessness. The final section summarizes expert opinions from those who are working with homeless Aboriginals across Canada regarding the most pressing issues currently affecting those people.
