Homelessness Prevention
Homeless populations are highly susceptible to many different health related issues. While the occurrence of HIV/AIDS varies throughout the different geographic regions it prevalence in homeless populations often exceeds that of non-homeless populations. This topics page contains information specifically related to the occurrence, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS among homeless populations.

The best way to end homelessness is to prevent it. Providing eviction prevention services such as rent subsidies, assistance with utilities, case management, or mediation with landlords are cost-effective ways of keeping individuals and families in their homes. Homelessness prevention has come to the forefront of the national agenda with the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the Federal Stimulus). Administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the HPRP provides $1.5 billion to prevent homelessness and minimize the length of time that people are homeless through rapid re-housing.
